The dress code at Audubon is a controversial topic, and many students believe it’s sexist and unfair for girls.
Francesca T., a seventh grade student, said she thinks the dress code isn’t always about the girls’ clothes but about how they look on someone.
“Sometimes more people get dress-coded based on what their body looks like and not what they are actually wearing,” she said.
Another seventh grade student McCoy M. said, “It doesn’t really affect me because all the boys pretty much wear the same clothes every day.”
Eleonore T., an eighth grade student, said, there are limited clothes for girls.
Clothes that are normalized for girls, such as shorts and tank tops, are simply more revealing, and girls are more likely to face consequences for dress code violations than boys.
“Girls shouldn’t be punished for wearing what they can, especially when it is the standard,” Eleonore T. said.
